Peter StaffeldPeter Staffeld, PhD, PE, F.NSPE, is an Engineering Consultant for Staffeld Engineering Services. With over 25 years in both large and small companies, Peter has extensive experience in the areas of process troubleshooting, process improvements, equipment specifications, modeling & optimization, project economics, licensing, and technical training.  You can read his full bio on LinkedIn. 

Prior to starting Staffeld Engineering Services, Peter was Vice President of Manufacturing for a global polyurethanes manufacturer.  He was responsible for their high-speed, robotic manufacturing lines, and the labor-intensive post-production processes. He is an expert process troubleshooter, and knows how to develop and implement economical solutions for complex problems.  Peter worked for Mobil Oil Corporation in a variety of positions including: technology sales & licensing (where he was responsible for sales on four continents); project economic analysis (where he analyzed dozens of engineering projects); process modeling and optimization (where his team pioneered the use of spreadsheets for refinery unit optimization); and research and development (where he was awarded a US patent).  

In addition to consulting, Peter currently teaches engineering economics, chemical reactor design, plant equipment design, technical communications, and unit operations laboratory to upperclass chemical engineering students at Villanova University.  He is also an Adjunct Professor at DeSales University where he teaches the “ecological crisis” capstone course in the chemistry department.  He was formerly a Program Director and Lecturer for the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Oxford England while working for Mobil Oil. 

Peter graduated first in his class from Michigan State University with a BS in chemical engineering, and earned masters and doctorate degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.  He is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Arkansas, and holds a federal TWIC security clearance. Peter is also a Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist for Word and Excel, and a Microsoft Certified Trainer.

Peter was named a Fellow of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in 2014.  He is currently State Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE), and Past-President of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of PSPE.  He is Vice Chair of the Professional Engineers in Higher Education interest group for the NSPE, and Faculty Advisor for the Villanova University NSPE student chapter.  Peter serves the community as an alternate on the Upper Saucon Township Zoning Hearing Board, and served two terms (six years) on the Environmental Advisory Council.  He was formerly Secretary and Member-At-Large of the Chemical Consultants Network.  He was also formerly Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for the Mobil Research Federal Credit Union.
